This original production, conceived by Laurianne Corneille, mirrors Tom Volf’s *Maria Callas: Letters and Memoirs* and the final writings of Maria Malibran, excerpted from Alain Duault’s *Une femme de feu – Le roman de la Malibran*.
These “Sfogato” sopranos—meaning “without limits”—are archetypal and foundational figures of the Diva in the broadest sense, from her art to her love affairs.
What is less well known—and becomes apparent when we trace history back—is that Maria Malibran and Maria Callas, two fiery women whom the public has elevated to the status of sacred icons, are part of a lineage tracing back to a very first figure: the great Giuditta Pasta.
To bring these mystical and passionate lives back to life, mezzo-soprano Karine Deshayes, actress Julie Depardieu, and pianist Laurianne Corneille join forces. Through the vocal repertoire and intimate writings of these stars, they paint a triple, incandescent portrait, between music
and words, between flesh and legend.
